After just a few uses, the steel is beginning to "pit" in the bottom. This leads me to believe that this pot was not made with high quality stainless steel.

(More customer reviews)If your an expat or just an anglophile and you are left wondering, "Why doesn't America embrace the electric kettle?!" then this is the item for you. Sleek and aptly priced.
I don't know why you'd pay around $50 for something that just heats water... brand loyalty? I wouldn't pay the extra $15-$30 just for the flat metal plate that the Braun or Philips has. (The West Bend kettle has a metal coil to heat up the water: Yes, you have to clean the coiled versions, but it's exactly the same as cleaning out a coffee maker... white vinegar once in a blue moon. Hey, the Brits and the Irish don't mind the coil, why should I?)
The stouter version of this I think is too small, unless you live alone and don't drink that much tea/coffee/cocoa. Between us, my brother and I drink six to eight cups of tea a day, plus hot cereal on top of that and this kettle is more than sufficient (1.7 liters).
Some more good things:
It turns of automatically after it comes to a roaring boil.
See-through panel lets you see the water level.
So quiet, you wouldn't know it's on...
That's why it has a little red light that goes on.
Has a locking top so as to avoid spills.
The black fits in with my kitchen's decor.
It also comes in handy for when I'm cooking, using up all the burners and need just a bit of hot water, quickly. Or even if I am cooking rice or pasta, it's easier to heat up the water in the electric kettle and then pour it into the pot on the stove.
Two complaints: The cord is thick and not very flexible (the cord itself is about two feet). I have this plugged into the same outlet as my microwave and cannot use the two at the same time or else I'll have a circuit short... but then again, whoever remodeled the kitchen did a bad job on the electicity.
Makes a great present for any hot beverage lover or college student.

Many crock pots I read about before purchasing this one do not have the warm setting, which makes keeping your cooked items at the right temperature for your meal without the higher cooking heat that could possibly over-cook your meal if left on too long.
Have already made several meals with the crock pot (turkey carbonate, beef stew and baby back ribs). I noticed when the recipes called for cooking from 7-9 hours on low temperature, it only took 7 hours, so checking your food is important when you first start using a new crock pot.
Would definitely recommend this crock pot.

(More customer reviews)I have owned one of these for the past 15 years and it's still strong. The handle is convent if your a soup lover as you can eat straight out of the cooker. I have cooked ramen, steamed vegetables, made sauce, I even use this with ravioli and it works beautifully each time. The cover works like a steamer so your soups actually cook/reheat faster, the holes are also a nice strainer. It's easy to clean and convenient if you have kids because it's extremely easy to use and the plastic doesn't get really hot so it's easy to use for making themselves lunch or an afternoon snack. The best thing is the cover stops the microwave from being cover in stuff if the stuff start boiling. You can find some great recipes for this on the website .

But, comfort foods require long, slow cooking and because I'm unwilling to stay home watching and waiting all day, the idea of using a slow cooker seemed an excellent alternative. I have to admit that I haven't used a slow cooker since the early 70's and back then I really didn't have a clue how to properly use one, thus the meals weren't too tasty. After collecting dust for many years, I finally gave the cooker away. So, after 30 years, I began my search for the ideal "modern" slow cooker, debating about which size, what price and what features were suitable to my needs. In the 70's we didn't have so many choices - it was either harvest gold or avocado green with or without flower decoration, plus the switch was manual on, off, warm and sometimes auto. This 6 Qt. Hamilton Beach has excellent features - count-down digital timer, glass lid, removable ceramic insert, Probe/Manual/Program modes, Low/High/Warm/Off function, Automatic switchover to Warm (and stays there for 14-hrs), 3-year warranty and a 15 page instruction manual, but without recipes (English & Spanish). Amazon was selling it at a reduced price with shipping included - perfect! Amazon's price was also less expensive than what I saw in the local stores. Delivery was very prompt - I received it about 1 week after ordering. The digital programming feature is an excellent "modern" addition and well worth the extra expense. I used the probe while cooking a pot roast, but didn't find it too useful. After 5 hours the probe said the meat was cooked, which was correct, except since it was a pot roast it still required more slow cooking to break down the meat fibres - another 4 hours on Low did the trick. To add extra depth and flavour, I like to season, dredge and brown all meats, poultry or vegetables before adding to the crockery insert. It's well worth the extra time and effort. Also, be sure to reduce the cooking liquid to 2-1/2 cups, because extra liquid always accumulates by the end of the cooking cycle and you don't want the meal to taste like it's been boiled, unless you're making soup. So far, I've made barbecued pork ribs, soup with vegetable, beans, rice & ham hocks, beef stew, smoked pork picnic with veggies, chicken thighs & legs in barbecue sauce, beef pot roast with onions and veggies, pork chops in mushroom & onion gravy, beef short-ribs in a tomato-based sauce and each dish turned out perfectly and was very tasty. I've also made Chinese congee (or jook) in my smaller 3.5 qt. slow cooker with excellent results. Use your favourite recipe, but a ratio of 1-cup long-grain white rice to 10-cups chicken stock (or water) produces a good consistency - cook on Low for 10-hours. A big plus is that the slow cooker gives the opportunity to use less expensive, but tastier cuts of meat. The 6 quart size is perfect for 4 to 6 people or for 1 to 2 people with the intention of freezing leftover portions. Be aware that for the slow cooker to function properly it must be 1/2 to 2/3rds full.

anyway, next to the rice cooker, which we use everyday, this item gets the most use. seriously...almost daily. usually we make some kind of shioyaki (sake, gindara, aji, or saba) and sometimes gindara misoyaki. but we also use it for burgers, pork chops, steaks, etc.
there are many complaints on here about the smoke. yes, it can be excessive at times, especially with oily things like saba, a well-marbled wagyu steak, or a burger. but we just set it on a wooden cutting board on the stove and use the exhaust fan, and problem solved. besides, the smoke is precisely one of the main benefits of this roaster...sure it goes all over the house. but it also goes all over the food, leaving a nice char-broiled flavor. outstanding.
regarding the floating reflector, the first thing my wife did the first time we used it was to put foil down. problem solved. it requires a total disassembly and cleaning about every 10 uses or so. 5 minutes on high (with nothing in it) after the meal has been cooked gets rid of a lot of the mess though. kind of like a self-cleaning oven.

I love the timer - no more winding and turning - and it's easily cleaned. The baskets nest so that they only take up the room of one basket while it's in the cabinet. Overall, I'm very satisfied with this product. I'd purchase it again, and I'd recommend it to anyone looking for a good steamer.

You almost have to experiment with lower power setting on your microwave. That's when this product proves it's greatness. The second time I tried Talapia at 4 and 1/2 minutes on power level 4. The steam cooks it fast, so you can now use this thing at the normal microwave temperature. Once you experiment and get the time and temp right, this thing can be great. The talipia came out moist and tasty, due to seasoning it.

Rival RO180 18-Quart Roaster Oven, White Review

(More customer reviews)I bought this a couple of years ago to help with the Thanksgiving load on the oven. But now we wouldn't cook a turkey any other way, and I love it for big batches of soup and chili. The turkey cooks in far less time than in an oven, and it's wonderfully moist and flavorful. It makes huge batches of soup that are not possible in my crock pot, so is invaluable for those extra large recipes. And it's very easy to transport.
I really appreciate having the oven available for other dishes when I use my roaster. And when my oven was being repaired ,we used the roaster in it's place, and I was pleasantly surprised at what I could cook in it! I just used it dry, and put my baking pans inside, and my dishes came out just as good as when using the conventional oven. It's large enough to easily accomodate a 9x13 pan.
The one big drawback is you have to really watch the temperature. It gets hotter than you set the dial, so I compensate and cook at a lower temperature. It can be annoying at first, but once you get used to your roaster, it's not so big of a deal. But be prepared until you know what your roaster will do. And the removable pan you cook in is very big and not very nonstick, so can be a pain to wash unless you have an extra large sink. Spraying it down in the sink while it's still hot does help with clean-up, but it's never easy to wash. It does take up a lot of counter space while using it.
I have the buffet inserts, and they work great for taco/nacho parties. I put the hot items in their own compartment (meat, beans, cheese sauce), and they stay hot the entire time. And, again, it's portable, so you can take it to an event to use this way. If we have a big crowd at the holidays and serve family style, I put in the buffet insert after the turkey is done, fill them with the hot sides (potatoes, stuffing, veggies, etc), and it keeps those 3 hot dishes hot through out the entire meal. Very handy!! If you do a web search, you'll find a ton of great ideas and recipes for your roaster. There are very dedicated roaster users out there that have great information that I recommend you look at.
Like I said, I initially got it for holiday meals, but find I'm reaching for it for so many other events. Just watch the temperature!

I researched long and hard before this purchase believing I would get an electric cooker while hoping that one existed with a stainless steel dish versus the typical alluminum type; I never did find one. This Frabosk cooker solved both the electricity usage, the stainless steel bowl search, the easy clean-up and best of all great tasting rice each and every time. This cooker brings out the flavor of rice unlike anything I ever knew was its potential. It is actually a rice STEAMER which can also be used for fish, vegetables and reheating leftovers. The ONLY downside is that it takes longer for the rice to cook and unlike the traditional rice cookers, one cannot keep the rice warm. One does need to add water both to the cooking pot and a bit to the rice as needed. I add olive oil, garlic and parsely to the rice as I set it up to cook and the results are wonderful.
